Old Detroit is a violent place. Between the gangsters, the killer mechs, and the shifty politicians, RoboCop: Rogue City has plenty of ways to kill you in this action FPS. Thankfully, RoboCop comes prepared for war. From his signature Auto 9 to a collection of shotguns, snipers, and explosives, this action hero has no shortage of options in a fight. Yet his strongest doesn’t require ammunition or a holster. Teyon has an eye for style, and the best weapon in this throwback to ’80s action movies is RoboCop himself. Rogue City proves that metallic fists are good for more than just busting through walls to get the bad guys.

Why RoboCop Has the Best Punch Around

Most first-person shooters give the player a melee attack or two. In some, that means clubbing your enemy with the butt of your rifle. In others, it means martial arts befitting Mortal Kombat‘s deadly roster. RoboCop: Rogue City keeps things simple, and the first part of his best weapon is a straight-up punch. Actually, RoboCop doesn’t so much punch as plunge his metal fist forward like a piston. Hit anyone except a robot or heavy trooper and they’re going down instantly. RoboCop’s punch is so powerful it sends his targets flying across the room and ragdolling over the furniture.

The animation is stiff but in a way that makes sense: Officer Murphy is now a cyborg, after all. Whether you’re fighting your way through the tutorial level or the final stage of the campaign, RoboCop’s punch never stops being a satisfying and effective weapon. Despite arguably being the best weapon in RoboCop’s arsenal, you’ll probably rely on guns more in Rogue City. Getting into melee range against an opponent with a gun is dangerous, after all, even if you aren’t in much danger outside of the game’s higher difficulty levels. Even so, his fists deserve to be used any chance you get. They’re just too fun and effective to ignore.

Why Throws Are So Satisfying in Rogue City

Pummeling bikers into submission with your steel fists is fun, but another melee technique is even more enjoyable. In Rogue City, RoboCop can grab most enemies and carry them around. Using them as human shields is works well, but nothing is more effective or satisfying than throwing them. Rogue City has one of the most satisfying throws of any recent action game, and it’s easy to see why. RoboCop is so strong and throws enemies so far that it feels like you accidentally stepped into Star Wars and used the force. Throw enemies into explosive barrels or off ledges. Use them to knock down their friends like bowling pins.

The most fun technique is also the most OP. Throw your enemy straight up into the air, slow down time, and then unload on them with your weapon of choice. Lining an enemy up in the crosshair of your sniper rifle while they freefall in slow motion back to earth is fun every single time. Even if you do it a thousand times over the course of the campaign, treating your enemies like clay pigeons and blowing them out of the air is always great. It’s also ridiculously strong. Combining a throw with gunshots wildly increases your damage. It’s not even slightly balanced, but it’s the most fun you can have in Rogue City.

Storytelling with Fists in RoboCop

Alex Murphy’s fists are in some ways the perfect fusion of mechanics and storytelling. Rogue City understands that RoboCop is a power fantasy. It’s about stomping around as a supercop that not even bullets can stop, dispensing Old Detroit’s brand of justice one steel jab at a time. The premise of RoboCop demands that he be stronger and tougher than everyone around him. He’s supposed to be more than a cop. He’s supposed to be the embodiment of justice itself. Though he often fails to live up to that ideal, it’s important that he has the tools to keep trying. In this way, RoboCop’s fists are the best weapon in Rogue City for the game’s writers and players alike.

RoboCop: Rogue City is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
