The CW has made a strong resurgence in recent years on the back of original IPs and unique adaptations of beloved comics. So it’s no surprise that the network is renewing 7 of it series for the upcoming 2017-2018 season of television

Led by its DC originals – Arrow, D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Supergirl – the network also renewed Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and Supernatural. While the comics were almost a lock, the early confirmation of the others surprised many.

Supernatural has  become (literally) unkillable, as Dean and Sam enter their 13th season of demon slaying, despite criticism of the series becoming drawn out (I mean they killed the Devil for god’s sake). Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a happy surprise, as the fan favorite – and Golden Globe Award winner – earns a 3rd season despite the shows low ratings.

Notably absent from the list of renewals are CW originals iZombie and The 100, currently entering Season 3 and Season 4 respectively.  The aforementioned renewals are actually early than usual though, so while they weren’t in the first batch, don’t put them on cancellation watch just yet.

Alongside the renewal, and speaking of raising things from the dead, the CW announced it would be turning Constantine into an animated series to be broadcasted on the networks streaming site CW Seed. The project will see the return of Matt Ryan, who played the role in the NBC live action show as detective John Constantine.

The show will air as five or six 10-minute episodes and will be overlooked by Flash and Arrow producer. But don’t take the short time slot as a one and done of the exorcist turned occult detective, as the network has shown these adaptations are still cannon.

Fellow hero Vixen, who has her own animated show on the Seed, is proof of that after appearing on the crossover episode of Flash and Arrow. Constantine also has the benefit of not only already having his own show on NBC (which are all available for streaming on CW), but also already having appeared appeared in a fourth season episode of Arrow.
