FNTASTIC, the developer of The Day Before, has announced on Twitter that the studio is shutting down. This announcement comes just one day after The Day Before released as an early access titled on Steam, where it received over 18,000 reviews resulting in an overwhelmingly negative rating. Despite the studio shutting down, FNTASTIC said in its statement that the future of The Day Before and its other project Propnight are “unknown” but servers will remain up, at least temporarily.

In FNTASTIC’s statement on Twitter announcing the shutting down of the studio, it cited the financial failure of The Day Before as a reason. In the statement, the developer said that all funds received from The Day Before are “being used to pay off debts to our partners.” The statement does not include any mention of refunding purchases of the game.

The statement also emphasizes that FNTASTIC did not take any pre-order money nor did it crowdfund The Day Before. Despite the main developer closing down and The Day Before being an early access titled that is unfinished, FNTASTIC is not removing the game from Steam and it is still available for purchase at its $40 price. The statement mentions that the servers will remain up, although it seems unlikely that will last.

The reactions many of the reaction on Twitter are calling the release of The Day Before a scam, accusing the developer of taking the money from the early access sales and not finishing the game. Without FNTASTIC offering refunds, anyone who purchased the game on Steam and played more than two hours won’t be able to get a refund, unless Valve steps in. For now, don’t expect The Day Before to get any more content updates or to launch on consoles at any point in the future.
