20th Century Studios is ready to unleash evil this spring. The studio has released the trailer for The Omen prequel, The First Omen (seen below). The supernatural horror flick goes for a subtle approach as we don’t get to see too much, but there are plenty of hints of what’s to come. It will be the feature-length debut of director Arkasha Stevenson, who co-wrote the script with Tim Smith and Keith Thomas.
The film follows an American woman (Nell Tiger Free) who goes to Rome to work in a church. Things start to go awry for her, making her question her faith and the church. As she investigates what is happening, she discovers a conspiracy to bring forth an evil presence.
The First Omen Is Set to Be a Prequel to the Original 1976 Movie
The First Omen trailer gives us a glimpse at some of the cast members. From those we see and don’t see, it will feature Free, Bill Nighy, Ralph Ineson, Sonia Braga, Mia McGovern Zaini, Tawfeek Barhom, Andrea Arcangeli, Anton Alexander, and Maria Caballero.
It has been nearly 20 years since we have revisited the Antichrist. The last film was a reboot in 2006. The original run of movies started in 1976 and spawned sequels Damien: Omen II (1978), Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981), and Omen IV: The Awakening (1991).
The First Omen trailer arrives during a crowded time for supernatural horror movies involving religious themes. Last year, we received The Pope’s Exorcist, The Nun 2, and The Exorcist: Believer. Believer, which was directed by Halloween‘s David Gordon Green, will be a trilogy. The next entry, subtitled Deceiver, will be released in 2025.
The First Omen will give us chills and possibly nightmares on April 5.
