With the release of The Last of Us: Part II now firmly on the horizon, fans are starting to get more and more excited as the days go by.

Some players would have been looking forward to a continuation of the first game’s multiplayer modes. Well, I have news for these people, curb your enthusiasm.

As you may have guessed from the headline (and if you didn’t, shame on you), The Last of Us: Part II will not feature any multiplayer modes. At all. It’s a bold move in this day and age and despite the fun to be had in the online section of the original game, I am completely on board with this move.

Too often, the singleplayer aspects of games suffer due to added focus on multiplayer. Titles such as Resident Evil 5, for example, suffer when played solo. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 even went down the route of multiplayer only.

That will definitely not be the case for The Last of Us: Part II. Originally due to have multiplayer, that aspect of the game was, at some point, canceled so the developers could focus on the best possible single-player adventure they could give us.

Given the fact TLOU2 comes on 2 Blu Ray discs, it sounds as though the developers are certainly trying to deliver on that promise and will be giving gamers a huge, meticulously crafted game world to play about in.

The move is bound to annoy some people, however, at least the remastered versions of The Last of Us on the PlayStation 4 still gives fans the ability to play online and is coincidentally free on PS+ next month.

Who knows, maybe they will release an online mode for it some point in the future. I wouldn’t hold my breath but it’s still a possibility.

Whatever the future holds, it’s looking bright for The Last of Us: Part II. Let us know your thoughts on this move in the comments and of course let us know which version you’re going to be pre-ordering. You may be disappointed at this news but we all know you’ll rush out and get the game. Be honest.
