Lyle and Erik Menendez remain trending topics on social media as their resentencing hearing draws closer. The infamous Menendez brothers will plead their case and push for freedom with their attorney on December 14. However, not everyone believes they have been reformed and are no longer the same people who murdered their parents. Sources recently claimed six key witnesses would set the record straight for those doubting Erik and Lyle’s changed hearts.

According to insiders, these witnesses are prison employees, including two correctional officers, one education officer, and a prison guard. The list continued with a correctional lieutenant and another employee from the Department of Corrections. These prison employees have all crossed paths with the Menendez siblings and can testify about their rehabilitation behind bars. The six shall highlight how the brothers worked on themselves and helped other inmates improve their lives.

Part of their statements would include the beautification program the convicts created at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. Lyle launched the Green Space program in 2018, with Erik as the lead painter. Their project featured murals of San Diego landmarks and pushed for more engaging activities for inmates. The list included outdoor classrooms, training areas for service dogs, and meeting spaces for rehab groups.

Erik and Lyle’s attorney, Mark Geragos, has filed the documents supporting their case, including an emotional letter. Members of the Menendez family implored the court to release the brothers, noting they believed in their “remorse.” The letter obtained by TMZ also stressed that new evidence called for reevaluating their convictions and sentencing. The family argued that Erik and Lyle had paid for their crimes, a sentiment some fans echoed on X/Twitter. Meanwhile, others believed the brothers should remain behind bars.

Fans Have Mixed Reactions to the Menendez Brothers’ Possible Freedom

News of the six witnesses set to testify in the Menendez brothers’ trial sparked a heated debate amongst fans. One X user noted the prison employees’ perspective could prove Erik and Lyle’s reformed images. Another supporter penned their prayers to the brothers, hoping for their release. They claimed the Menendez siblings deserved to return home, noting their families have waited for years. “Will they release them ??” a third wondered.

While some sympathized with Erik and Lyle, others criticized the outpour of support for convicted killers. One disapproving fan stressed that the brothers shouldn’t have killed their parents even if they were abused, writing:

“Facts are they murdered them when they had $ and could have left. Could have gone to the papers. Lots of other options. Enough with liberalism.”

Another critic echoed similar sentiments, slamming people for pushing for the Menendez brothers’ freedom. An X user implied the brothers murdered their parents over money and called for severe punishment by law. On the other hand, news of the resentencing trial broke Erik’s wife’s heart for a different reason.

We covered that Tammi Menendez addressed the situation on X in October, noting she expected an immediate release. “I am Grateful to DA Gascon for his courage to seek resentencing for Erik. I am naturally disappointed he did not go further and act on his own belief that Erik and Lyle have served enough time in prison,” Tammi wrote.

Will Erik and Lyle Menendez obtain their freedom next month, or will they remain behind bars?
