Another single-season series for The Midnight Club now that it’s canceled. This comes soon after the news that Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy exited their overall deal with the streaming service. Mike Flanagan has had successful projects for Netflix, like The Haunting at Hill House series and The Midnight Mass. He and Trevor Macy left Netflix for Amazon Studios. The Midnight Club was Flanagan’s adaptation of the young adult book by Christopher Pike. The Netflix horror mystery-thriller series centered around terminally ill teens who bond over telling each other stories late at night while dealing with mysteries of Brightcliffe Hospice. It had some romance, lots of drama, and supernatural elements to it. The first episode broke the record for the most jump scares in a television episode. Unfortunately, now that the Netflix horror mystery-thriller The Midnight Club is canceled, there will be no more record-breaking.

“The Midnight Club” is Not the Last Project from Mike Flanagan

Mike Flangan created the adaptation series "The Midnight Club" which starred Iman Benson.

From Hush to Oculus, Mike Flanagan quickly makes himself a staple in horror. Despite what was shown in the now-canceled The Midnight Club, Flanagan does not depend on jump scares. He knows how to build up tension without shocking audiences but making them want more. The Netflix horror mystery-thriller series The Midnight Club was quite different than Flanagan’s other projects. It had spooky aspects to it but also heartfelt relationships of young people whose lives have been cut far too short. There was the snappy Anya, the sweet IIonka, and the charming Kevin. The Midnight Club is canceled, but Flanagan planned it as an “ongoing” series. The Netflix horror mystery-thriller series won’t be able to show the elements of Pike’s other stories like Flanagan wanted. It’s a bummer for fans that enjoyed the one season it had to offer. Luckily, this is far from the last project by Flanagan.
