The Powerpuff Girls are back to save the day in a new comic book series. Dynamite is teaming up with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products to bring the trio out of retirement. The new series comes from acclaimed writer Kelly Thompson and artist Paulina Ganucheau. Together, the creative duo is taking Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup on their next big adventure. The creators promise this adventure will be a nostalgic thrill ride for longtime fans of the franchise.

The Powerpuff Girls began in the self-titled Cartoon Network animated series back in 1998. It followed the adventures of three superpowered girls who were created in a lab by Professor Utonium. The trio dedicated their lives to fighting evil and saving the world. The cartoon ran until 2005, with several specials and attempted revivals taking place in-between. However, the franchise has been quiet lately, with no updates or announcements. Now, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are back and ready to tackle the dangers dreamed up by Thompson and Ganucheau.

At last year’s NYCC, Dynamite Comics teased plans to revive several classic Warner Bros. cartoons in comic form. This includes Thundercats, Space Ghost, and more. Now, it seems one of those classic series was The Powerpuff Girls. This news is sure to excite fans who have had some disheartening setbacks in getting the trio back on their screens. Just last year, a live-action version of the series was scrapped while an animated reboot has gone radio silent.

For Fans From Fans

Writer Kelly Thompson openly admits to being a huge fan of The Powerpuff Girls franchise. In fact, when they were fresh out of art school, they wrote several short stories starring the super trio. They even began storyboarding them in the hopes of working on the show. So, to be on board with their comic book revival is nothing short of a dream come true.

Meanwhile artist Paulina Ganucheau also grew up obsessed with the franchise. In fact, they had their very own PPG OC and was part of a Powerpuff Girls oekaki board back in the day. It sure feels like fans have nothing to worry about with this comic series as it seems to be in really good hands with Thompson and Ganucheau.

The Powerpuff Girls #1 is expected later in July.
