As someone with a shelf full of Gundam figures and someone who watches anime daily, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion rose to the top of my wishlist as soon as I saw it announced. As you may know, the mecha genre has seen a resurgence with games like Armored Core 6 and Mecha Break, and with the superb Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. Still, it isn’t as crowded or mainstream as I would like it to be because, let’s face it, making a good game of this type is challenging. But now, according to the recent hands-on previews of Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, it seems XSEED and Marvelous Inc. have cracked the code and created the best mecha experience of 2025.

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion Previews Claim It is More than Just a Sequel, It Is the Ultimate Mecha Experience

Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion - Story Trailer

For the unaware and those who’ve just discovered Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion through the recent previews, this one is a sequel. The first Daemon X Machina launched in 2019, and while it wasn’t bad, it didn’t reach the heights we were expecting. The customization and player freedom were there, but most things felt a bit repetitive after a while. Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion seems to have fixed all of these things by offering even more mission variety, a lot of character customization that even lets you abandon your humanity in favor of power, and much more.

On top of that, this sequel fixes one of the most common tropes that hurt the mecha genre: combat. Be it Armored Core or even Mecha Break, many of these games never manage to find the balance between fast-paced combat and smooth movement. Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, however, fixes this by creating the perfect mix of both. Here, you wear an armored suit instead of piloting a giant mecha, and that helps to make combat feel much faster and responsive without hurting movement while outside of a fight. It is like piloting a Skell but using fighting moves straight out of Devil May Cry.

Customization, Combat, and Exploration Have Vastly Improved

One thing that many outlets mentioned in their hands-on preview of Daemon X Machina: First Scion is how everything has improved compared to its predecessor. While the first game already boasted a lot of customization, the sequel has way more that aren’t exclusive to the character creator only. After a while, your character can equip mutations that provide powerful buffs at the cost of abandoning your humanity. However, this is something you actually see in the game, as your body will change each time you get a new mutation.

Furthermore, your Arsenal, the armored suit, is capable of equipping up to six weapons; all of them tailored toward a different playstyle. If you want to do fast attacks at a melee range, go for blades. Do you want to do a lot of damage from afar? Use your railgun. It all gets better when you see just how much loot there is in the game, which will be great for those who love grinding as part of the core gameplay loop.

And if that wasn’t enough, the exploration plays a key role in the game. Besides flying or running with your Arsenal, you can also use mounts to explore the map while on the ground. According to some outlets, there are even Secret Dungeons you can discover, and each one has impactful rewards that can greatly improve your armored suit.

Usually, when I see a new mecha game on the horizon, I can’t help but see a cloud of skepticism lingering above it. Fortunately, that isn’t the case for Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, especially after reading the recent previews. Overall, it seems like the modern mecha experience I’ve been craving. It has superb customization, a gorgeous art style, terrific music, and highly destructive armored suits that you can modify to a T. It is the dream of every mecha fan out there. Now, all that remains is waiting for the imminent September 5 release, which is when we’ll be able to get inside our Arsenals to slice and blast our way through a perilous world alone or with others.
