While PlayStation and Xbox had a knife fight in the trenches of the Console War, Nintendo watched from the safety of a bunker named Switch. With great games, solid sales, and the ultimate fulfillment of the “gaming-on-the-go” promise, there’s a lot to love about this convertible platform. Despite this being the Switch’s final year, Mario-shaped stars stud the fall lineup. Whether you’re looking for a prehistoric shooter or a next-gen Metroidvania to celebrate the launch of the Switch 2, we’ve got you. Here’s what you can expect from Nintendo’s upcoming lineup (including highlights of some favorites).

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Despite defending Hyrule and defeating Ganon countless times, Link has never been predictable. The franchise’s titular heroine is no less complex a character, but she rarely gets a proper spotlight.

That’s changing in Echoes of Wisdom. The first lady of Hyrule is getting her own game, complete with an item-cloning magic wand and Amiibo-esque graphics. You can look for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on September 26, 2024.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

The expectation for a new Mario Party or WarioWare is simple: great minigames. The franchise has a solid track record for meeting that expectation, and Jamboree looks like more of the same (in a good way, we swear). Super Mario Party Jamboree will be released on October 17, 2024, with new maps like Rainbow Galleria and Roll ’em Raceway. Every console generation deserves a weirdly aggro, Mario-themed party game, so the Switch 2 is starting things off right.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership

When you go from plumber to legendary hero, you make a lot of sacrifices. Mario’s given up a lot of quality time with his brother over the years, but now the red-and-green duo is back together. The trailer evokes everything from Paper Mario to Sunshine, which is good territory to be in.

Adorable graphics, endearing humor, and timing-based battle mechanics all make Mario & Luigi: Brothership one to watch when it leaps into action on November 7, 2024.

Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game

Ignore the awful title: Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game is putting its own spin on the cozy formula coming holiday 2024. Tolkein fans will be able to live in (and decorate) their very own Hobbit hole, go fishing, garden, make friends, and share a meal (or nine) in the Shire. Of course, cozy is a cramped genre these days, and Tales of the Shire will need more than nostalgia and whimsy to win our hearts. That said, it sure beats Moria.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

It took seven years to hear a peep about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but Nintendo finally released a gameplay trailer at Nintendo Direct 2024. It’s too soon to say much about the next 3D entry in the saga of Samus Aran, but the gameplay looks good, especially as the Switch 2 flagship. The first Prime dropped way back in 2002 (don’t think about it), but Beyond looks fit to carry on its genre-pushing legacy next year.
