The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Sees Permanent Price Drop Ahead of New Game Mode

Maybe it’s time to switch horror games

Fans of asymmetrical horror games like Dead By Daylight immediately flock to similar titles like The Evil Dead and Killer Klowns From Outer Space. The same thing can be said about The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, the only one based on a true story: that of Ed Gein. In anticipation of the newest game mode, Rush Week, being released, developer Sumo Digital has decided to slash the price of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre permanently to $19.99.

Rush Week is a new multiplayer mode inspired by Giallo-type novels and films. The mode occurs after the main game events with Johnny at Omega Sigma Theta Sorority House and attempting to break in and take the Sorority Girls with him. According to Gun Interactive CEO Wes Keltner,

If Johnny is in our game, why does he not appear in the ‘74 film? Where did he go? This game mode allows us to explore that storyline a bit.”

Is It a Coincidence that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Announces a Price Drop the Same Day that DBD Devs Acquired Red Hook Studios?

The permanent price drop of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre happens on the very same day that rival game Dead By Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive acquires Red Hook Studios, the team behind Darkest Dungeon. While I feel that there is no ill will behind the announcement, it is definitely an interesting choice to announce on the very same day.

Dead By Daylight has a total of four game modes, allowing for variety throughout gameplay sessions. The two most popular modes allow you to play as either the Killer or the Survivor in 1v4 combat. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre focuses on the 3v4 gameplay style with no specific hero and three killers per match. Now, both games are priced the same across all platforms, giving players more of a choice between the two similar but very different games. Sumo Digitial just couldn’t let Behaviour Interactive have even a moment in the spotlight!
