2K Games is back with yet another WWE game this year and according to the trailers, there are a ton of new features and the largest-ever WWE 2K roster in history in this new title. However, we’re here to take a closer look at WWE 2K25, put it under the magnifying glass if you will, to see if it’s actually worth the green in your wallet.

The Overall Gameplay Hasn’t Changed But There Are New Features To Try

If you’re looking for a ground-breaking change in the WWE 2K25‘s gameplay, this isn’t the year. The moves, reversals, how you execute combos, and finishers are all the same. And to be honest, this is probably the best a WWE videogame can get. 2K has found the winning formula and they keep polishing it instead of making unnecessary overhauls.

That said, there are a few things added to the gameplay this year, like the return of Chain Wrestling, which isn’t pleasing to all fans but it’s always good to have more ways to enjoy the game. There’s also the third-person camera feature in WWE 2K25 that doesn’t really affect the gameplay but it’s so fun to try.

2K Is Holding Back On PC

WWE 2K25‘s big announcement this year was the addition of The Island. This is an online hub like you see in other 2K Games like NBA where players get to do side activities and show off their custom character’s priced outfit. This ain’t much, and it’s got a way to go to become a prominent game mode in future WWE titles, but it’s still a delight. And it’s not available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions of the game.

Spending $100 on the Deadman edition of the game, I’m just confused at why would the developers leave PC with 8th gen consoles. There’s no way a PS5 or PS5 Pro is more of a muscle than my 4070 rig. The price of the game is what makes matters worse, where you pay for less content on Steam thinking that your giant PC gets the latest gen update. Not cool.

The Story Mode Is Less Linear This Year But The “Showcase” Rocks

In recent WWE 2K titles, we had two separate storylines to explore in the game, one for male and the other for female superstars. The idea was a linear narrative that’d be affected by the choices you make on your journey. WWE 2K25 has taken that to another level now, featuring too many options for changing the route as you play.

The story is still fun to play, but, it’s shorter now. It’s a matter of quantity now instead of a longer path, but you can always start a new narrative and choose different paths. On the other hand, the WWE 2K25’s Showcase is peak this year with Paul Hayman representing and commentating on the whole show. It’s like anything the man touches turns epic.

The Game Features Intergender Wrestling Now

Like to see Becky Lynch fight against John Cena? That isn’t happening in RAW, SmackDown, or NXT shows right now but WWE 2K25 has made this a possibility. Expanding our choice, the game now allows the players to pick superstars and pitch them against each other. Female wrestlers now also get bloodied when hit in the head, which makes the matches more intense, visually at least.

This works on almost every single match and mode available in the game, including MyRise. In fact, the story is heavily based on a pair of new intergender championship belts that’s been added to the WWE collection in the game.

Teeny-Tiny Graphic Improvements Over The Last Year’s Game

Can’t say if it’s all because the developers are tasked with releasing an 8th gen version of the game, but WWE 2K25 doesn’t come with huge graphical improvements. Just like the gameplay, there’s very little to notice in terms of visual upgrades. In fact, if you check the direct comparison videos, WWE 2K24 seems more detailed than 2K25 for some reason.

So with all that said, should you buy WWE 2K25? Regardless of whether you are a fan or new to the series, WWE 2K25 is a fun ride you won’t want to miss. However, you must consider the fact that the new title isn’t as fully detailed on PC, it has drastically changed gameplay-wise, and the visuals are almost the same as last year’s game.
