The Witcher franchise is going from strength to strength at the moment. We’ve had The Witcher 3 release on the Nintendo Switch, defying all the laws of physics. Then we’ve had the fantastic Netflix series along with that song that everyone loves.

We also shouldn’t forget the games on other consoles as well as the actual novels.

As of today, there’s more Witcher for everyone to enjoy as CD Projekt Red have surprise released Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales on the Switch at a cost of $19.99.

Released in 2018, Thronebreaker was originally imagined as the single-player component for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Eventually, it released as its own game that saw elements of Gwent mixed in with RPG elements where choices will have consequences and affect the story.

The story sees you controlling Queen Meve, the ruler of Lyria and Rivia. I’m afraid that these events precede the original Witcher and you won’t be taking control of Geralt here. That said, this hasn’t stopped Thronebreaker from receiving favorable reviews so far. There’s no reason the Switch edition should be any different.

With a campaign that’s said to last up to 30 hours there should be plenty here for your money should you have missed the game on PC, Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

If you have played it before there’s at least the added benefit of portability, something that I’ve purchased many a Switch game for.

Let us know in the comments if you have played Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales before or if you plan on getting it for the Switch.

I shall be downloading it as soon as I’m done here as I do love a good card game. I’m still dreaming of a re-release of Metal Gear Ac!d, although I think I’m alone with that one.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is out now.
