Although many other Hollywood stars have also been linked to the church, it’s Cruise who has been the face of the religion for decades. During that time, the Top Gun star has allegedly shelled out tons of cash from his own pocket to bankroll the group. Now, he’s living well below his means due to his love for Scientology.
According to In Touch Weekly, Tom Cruise hasn’t spent his money on tons of property or fancy cars like many other actors in his position would. Instead, he’s invested his money into the Church of Scientology. Cruise likely isn’t hurting for money. However, he reportedly doesn’t have the financial success that he should at this stage in his successful career.
Sources tell the outlet that Cruise has been making tens of millions of dollars for all of his movie roles since the 1990s. Since he continues to work, it appears that he should have quite a bit of money stashed away. However, that’s allegedly not the case. Instead, he’s been funding Scientology and living more like a “working class actor” instead of a multi-millionaire.

“Tom should have hundreds of millions of dollars from his decades of success, but that is not how he lives at all, and, especially in the last few years, he’s whittled down his property holdings and pretty much lives out of a suitcase and moves from movie project to movie project with little to no vacation time,” an insider dished. “He should be a billionaire by now and he clearly isn’t.”
“He’s being bled dry by this cult,” one person commented. “It’s off-putting to think about how many people he could actually help if he donated that money to charities.“
In addition to the money that he donates to help fund the church, Tom Cruise is also shelling out money for his biological daughter, Suri Cruise. Despite the fact that Tom and Suri reportedly haven’t had contact in years, the actor paid child support for the teenager until she turned 18 earlier this year. Now, Suri is currently a freshmen in college, and her famous dad is said to be paying her tuition.
A friend of the Mission: Impossible star previously told The Daily Mail that he’s never hesitated to pay for Suri’s expenses. This includes medical bills and education. Tom and Suri’s mother, Katie Holmes, split back in 2012. However, he’s said to be “fulfilling his obligation” to the teenager.
It appears that Tom Cruise has plenty of money to live a very comfortable lifestyle. However, he’s not worrying about becoming a billionaire. Instead, he’s focused on putting his money into things that are important to him. He’s made it clear with his years of involvement with the Church of Scientology that he’s a dedicated member. If he doesn’t mind handing over stacks of cash to the organization, that’s for him to decide. Of course, it will likely continue to be one of the most controversial aspects of the actor’s life.
