This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 took the task of crafting a sequel just as powerful, meaningful, and entertaining as the first game. According to early reviews, it’s doing just that. But what if you want more superhero action? Well, there are plenty of similar games to enjoy following the release of Spider-Man 2. To narrow our list to our top 10 favorites, we weighed various features such as open-world environment, playstyle and fighting mechanics, story, and more.

10. Gotham Knights

There’s no denying Gotham Knights received a less-than-stellar response from critics and fans. Even so, it can still be worth a playthrough for dedicated DC fans who need a game similar, at least in theory, to Spider-Man 2.

The Bat fam is a highlight as they’re well-designed and characterized. However, Gotham City itself stands out the most. It’s not as open-world compared to New York City in Spider-Man 2, but Gotham Knights manages to capture the gritty heart of Gotham.

As we’re looking for games to play following the release of Spider-Man 2, we thought it’d be best to jump back in time. 10 years back, in fact, to Prototype. Alex may not be a traditional superhero, but the parkour alone can make you feel like your neighborhood Spider-Man.

The setting is remarkable too. It nails the landmarks of NYC just as well as Spider-Man 2. You can admire the Empire State Building as you cause chaos with Alex’s superhuman strength and shapeshifting abilities.

8. Just Cause 4

Spider-Man games aren’t the only place you can seek out a vast open-world design. Just Cause 4 honestly produces a much larger world than Spider-Man 2, making it perfect for near-endless exploration.

Rico doesn’t have superpowers, yet traveling is a thrill. The grappling hook makes you feel like Spider-Man, while the wingsuit helps you soar. There’s even a weather system, which gives a fun, realistic slant to the game.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is a nice choice to get your superhero fix. It’s not among the games that heavily resemble Spider-Man 2, but it does have Spider-Man and a host of other Marvel heroes.

If you’re into the MCU, this includes all the big names and plotlines like Thanos and the hunt for the Infinity Stones. So, if you’re missing your Spidey kick alongside the other colorful band of characters, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 will fill that hole right up.

October 2014PC | Xbox One

For the fast-paced aspect of Spider-Man 2, Sunset Overdrive is one of those classic games you can’t go wrong with. It’s colorful, lively, and overflowing with action at every turn. Traveling about the dystopian world is exciting, as you can run up the walls and use grind rails.

You don’t have to go at it alone, either. Sunset Overdrive supports co-op multiplayer, which is perfectly called “Chaos Squad,” so you can enjoy the hectic city with friends.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of rushing around the city as the punk-loving Delsin Rowe, you must get your hands on inFAMOUS: Second Son. It’s the third installment of the series, but you can enjoy it without playing the other two. Of course, the others can be just as cool to play.

Delsin’s powers can make you feel like you’re playing one of those superhero games like Spider-Man 2. He may not move exactly like Spidey, but he does have some solid parkour moves paired with fun combat that utilizes his abilities in the best way.

What’s this? A LEGO game? Yes, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is a prime choice when you want games like Spider-Man 2. It doesn’t exactly match the latest Spidey game, but it features all the Marvel heroes you can ask for. It also deals with the upcoming film villain Kang the Conqueror for those eager to explore everything to do with the MCU.

The best thing about LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is that it’s pure fun, much like swinging around New York in Spider-Man 2. You can sit back and simply enjoy running around as your favorite superheroes in LEGO form. Plus, anyone can play it, making it a wonderful family game too.

One thing many fans love about Spider-Man 2 is how well it captures the essence of characters like Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy does that with the Guardian crew. You’ll feel like you’re reading the comics or enjoying the lively films.

Another beloved aspect of Spider-Man 2 is the storyline, which is yet another thing Guardians of the Galaxy captures well. Like the movies, there’s heart, laughter, and excitement at every turn.

June 2004PC | mac OS X | Xbox | PlayStation 2 | Nintendo DS | GameCube

We can’t have a list of games like Spider-Man 2 without including the OG Spider-Man 2. This is an absolute classic more slanted to veteran Spidey fans, but newer ones can certainly enjoy it all the same. There’s a certain nostalgia about it that makes it so delightful to play.

It focuses largely on the 2004 film if you’re missing some Tobey Maguire action. However, the side missions and quests truly bring out the similarities with the recent Spider-Man 2 game. You can have just as much fun taking down the bad guys as you would swinging around the city, crawling up buildings, and stopping car chases.

October 2011PC | mac OS X | Xbox 360 & One | PlayStation 3 & 4 | Nintendo Switch | Wii U

The Batman Arkham series continues to leave a powerful impact on superhero video games. Spider-Man 2 continues the smooth and dynamic combat system from the first game, one that took on traits from the Arkham series. Every game in the Batman trilogy boasts the combat mechanism, but Arkham City stands out as a solid choice for games similar to Spider-Man 2.

Arkham City isn’t as massive as New York, but the game makes it feel grander thanks to how realistic, open and well-designed the map is. You can travel almost anywhere and come across numerous groups of villains Batman can take down as loudly or quietly as you wish. Along with all that, the voice-acting performances and the storyline overall keep players returning for more.
