The first trailer for Top Gun: Maverick is out and it premiered in a big way. During Paramount Pictures’ Comic-Con panel Thursday in San Diego, the film’s star Tom Cruise walked out on stage to set up the trailer to the fans.

While it didn’t include much in the way of plot details, it did feature several jet-fueled action sequences, callbacks to the first, and the classic nostalgic Top Gun score; it will get stuck in your head. We may not have gotten any Kenny Loggins Danger Zone but I’m sure it will make an appearance in the full film next year.

According to Polygon, director Joseph Kosinski revealed a little more about what can be seen in the trailer.

“Everything you see in this film is real. We’re working with the Navy. I wanted to give you an experience of being inside that aircraft.ā€

All those high-flying action shots are true to form and not faked. The trailer opens up on a jet flying low over the desert while the voice of Ed Harris’ character can be heard explaining to Maverick that he hasn’t changed his ways in the last 30 years. It has all of the nuances and flavor of the first film set in the 80s with an updated look and more modern look.

Along with the trailer announcement, we also got our first look at the film’s poster.

Director Tony Scott was set to develop a sequel to the 1986 movie before he passed away in 2012. Jerry Bruckheimer is returning to produce the 2020 second as well. The movie was originally going to release July 12, 2019, but was pushed back a year due to complicated fight scenes and visual effects.

Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glenn Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris. You can take a ride into the danger zone when Top Gun: Maverick arrives in theaters on June 26, 2020.
