Toy Story 4
This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

Originally reported from Variety, Toy Story 4 has grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. This is the fifth Disney film this year alone to cross that billion-dollar benchmark.

Toy Story 4 joins The Lion King (which may or may not be a live-action movie), Aladdin (the one with Will Smith that came out a few months ago), Captain Marvel (going to stay away from talking about this one out of fear for my DMs), and Avengers: Endgame (the #1 highest-grossing movie of all-time). Spider-Man: Far From Home also crossed a billion worldwide but that’s a more tricky situation. Although the character and its universe are set in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Spider-Man character is still primarily owned by Sony.

While this is a monumental achievement for the Toy Story franchise, the focus here has to be on Disney’s mark on the box office. At the time of this writing, 7 out of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all-time are properties of the Mouse House. So, the Disney brand is not only dominating 2019’s box office but the record books as well. With the acquisition of Fox, Star Wars, the MCU, and their upcoming Disney+ streaming service right around the corner, it looks like that status quo won’t be changing anytime soon.

Domestically, Toy Story 4 grossed $421 million and is already one of the highest-grossing animated films in history. We here at The Nerd Stash loved the film, giving it a perfect rating. Our very own Damian Gordon writes:

“Toy Story 4 keeps the magic of what made the originals so good while adding new elements to keep it fresh like it’s the first. There is mind-blowing animation quality meshing with a great voice cast and a heartwarming script that’ll have you walking out with a smile.”
