Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions have finally released The Black Phone trailer. In it, viewers begin to get a feel for Scott Derrickson’s latest horror movie and a glimpse at what is sure to be a compelling and terrifying performance from actor Ethan Hawke.

You can check out The Black Phone trailer for yourself below:

The Black Phone is the latest horror film from Scott Derrickson, who serves as producer, director, and co-writer on the project. Along with Derrickson is his frequent co-writer, C. Robert Cargill. The duo is responsible for several popular projects, such as Doctor Strange and the Sinister franchise. Joining them is Ethan Hawke, who previously starred in their film, Sinister. Along with Hawke as the abductor and killer, referred to as the Grabber, is Mason Thames, who plays his abductee, Finney Shaw, in his first-ever film role.

The official synopsis was released along with The Black Phone trailer. It teases the events of the film, stating:

“Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”

Despite being physically alone in the Grabber’s basement, The Black Phone trailer makes it clear that Finney is not alone. Perhaps with the help of some ghostly advice from the Grabber’s past victims and his sister’s supernatural dreams, Finney may be able to escape and survive his abduction. Viewers can find out when The Black Phone arrives in theaters next year on February 4th, 2022.
