V Rising: Rift Incursion Event Guide

Do you even Rift bro?

There’s finally an endgame activity loop in V Rising and it doesn’t necessarily involve slaying other vampire players for their fancy loot. They’re called Rift Incursion events, and they involve slaying vampire NPCs for their fancy loot. But it’s more fun and safer since no one will send you hate mail afterward. Rift Incursion in V Rising, however, is quite the process to unlock. So I’ll be walking you through that process and what Rift Incursions are.

What is a Rift Incursion & How to Play

Rift Incursions in V Rising is a repeating game mode in the Ruins of Mortium (East region) that occurs during intervals (usually every hour by default). They also have set durations (usually 20 minutes by default) before they disappear. Once they disappear, they’ll occur again after the interval.

You can customize these intervals in the Advanced Game Settings when starting a new game, or in Edit Settings when loading a save file.

You’ll know when Rift Incursions appear in the Ruins of Mortium as they appear as either orange or red-painted areas in the region. If they don’t appear, that means you haven’t unlocked them (more on that below).

  • Orange Rift Incursions (tier 1) have a recommended level of 50+
  • Red Rift Incursions (tier 2) have a recommended level of 80+. These appear on a set timer right after Orange Rift Incursions.

Rift Incursion Instructions

  1. Go to the Rift Incursion area and head to the main rift in the Ritual Circle. These ritual circles will point you to a smaller rift area with clusters of vampiric enemies and monsters that you must slay.
  2. Slay the enemy clusters in each smaller rift area– including the newly spawned enemies to be rewarded with Stygian Shards.
  3. After 2-3 smaller rifts, head back to the main Ritual Circle rift and defeat the main Rift Incursion area boss. You’ll be rewarded with Ancestral Weapons, jewels, blueprints, and even more Stygian Shards.
  4. Red Rift Incursions reward Greater Stygian Shards and higher-level items or blueprints.

You will need to progress the main quest as the building required for the Rift Incursion is a quest reward. That usually means leveling up your Castle Heart, slaying certain bosses, or building and crafting.

That building is none other than the Eye of Mortium, which you can find under the Production and Dominance tab. The Eye of Mortium lets you check the intervals and duration for Rift Incursions.

Apart from the luck-based loot, you can spend your Stygian Shards on the two Vampire Merchants in Ruins of Mortium.

  • The Vampire Merchant in the South sells Ancestral Weapons for 1,000 Stygian Shards each.
  • The Vampire Merchant in the North sells more higher-level Ancestral Weapons for 2,000 Greater Stygian Shards each.

You can repair these shattered Ancestral Weapons in the Ancestral Forge. Also, you can repeat Rift Incursions as many times as you want.

V Rising is available on the PC and PlayStation platforms.
