Coming in February, Marvel explores a world where the Venom symbiote bonds with different heroes in What If?…Venom. The five-issue limited comic-book series comes from Jeremy Holt and Jesus Hervas. Together, the duo transforms Venom’s origin in the Marvel Universe. Instead of bonding with Eddie Brock, the symbiote sets out on a twisted trek through the Marvel Universe. As it meets different characters, it attempts to bond with them creating some strange incarnations of symbiote-infused heroes.

For most of his time within the Marvel Universe, the Venom symbiote has been attached to Eddie Brock. The symbiote latched onto Brock after Spider-Man AKA Peter Parker was able to rid himself of the alien lifeform. However, this new What If?… series is taking that origin story and completely changing it. This time around, Eddie Brock rejects the symbiote, leaving it to search for another host.

As Venom travels through the Marvel Universe, he encounters various heroes. As he latches onto these heroes, we are treated to new symbiote-infused versions of our favorite characters. This includes She-Hulk, Wolverine, Doctor Strange, Loki, and Moon Knight. Now, these heroes will need to contend with this newfound power. Plus, the series will ultimately reveal which hero Venom wants to stay bonded with.

Writer Jeremy Holt shared his excitement at getting to play around in the “Venom sandbox” and shake up a piece of Marvel lore. Plus, getting to bond five iconic heroes with the symbiote is icing on the cake. Holt continued to share that using the “What If?…” concept to do all this has been a wonderful way to introduce new versions of the same heroes we all love. Coupled with Jesus Hervas’ impeccable designs, What If?…Venom is shaping up to be quite the ride.
