Virtua Fighter fans are getting spoiled with the good news that the franchise isnโ€™t dead, and now that the latest entry in the long-running 3D fighting game series is getting a remaster called Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., Sega has revealed that this new remaster will come out sometime by the end of 2024, and will be coming to Steam only. No specific release date has been announced at this time, but considering how close the window is, weโ€™re likely getting the exact date soon.

According to the developer, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is the โ€œUltimate Edition of the legendary gameโ€ and it will come with all the bells and whistles of a remaster. This includes 4K resolution, updated high-resolution textures, and more.

The best part has to be the newly added rollback netcode which will make its online connectivity a lot more reliable than before. The original VF5 used delay-based netcode which was extremely unreliable for high-level play. This new change in direction from the Japanese fighting game developers to finally use rollback netcode has been the biggest blessing in this generation.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will come with Arcade mode and Ranked Match mode, and players will be able to create their own custom tournaments and leagues online with up to 16 players. Spectator mode will also be available so you will be able to watch each match in the tournament live.

Sega has been reviving a lot of old fan-favorite franchises, and in a recent interview, Justin Scarpone, the head of transmedia at the Japanese company, mentioned how the games being worked on are Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and a new Virtua Fighter. This is likely the sixth entry in the franchise and is likely coming at the best possible time for the fighting game genre.
