Steven Burton revealed via Twitter that he will be voicing Cloud Strife in Square Enix’s upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake.  Square Enix’s decision to add voices to the characters in the game further shows the differences the eagerly awaited remake will have when compared to the original.  Final Fantasy VII for the Sony Playstation contained text dialogue with no voice acting and a turn-based battle system. FFVII remake, however, will have a full cast of voice actors and an action-based battle system.  Additionally, the game will come out in episodic format via multiple full-game releases.  Outside of these minor details,  very little has been revealed about the Final Fantasy VII Remake from Square Enix.

Burton is no stranger to Cloud Strife.  Steve voiced the character in Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, World of Final Fantasy, and Dissidia: Final Fantasy.  Fans of his portrayal of Cloud Strife should have no issue with Square Enix welcoming Steve back into the role.  George Newburn has not been confirmed to reprise his role as Sephiroth and Square Enix has continued to be very tight lipped with updates to their legendary remake.  So far, a handful screenshots and early gameplay snippets were provided since its official announcement in June 2015.

Rumors spread near the end of 2016 stating Square Enix would release the first episode of the game in 2017 to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Final Fantasy Series.  However, the company has denied those rumors.    Square has stated the remake of this game is a massive undertaking and fans have been grabbing onto any detail they can get.  E3 isn’t far off, so hopefully, Square Enix plans to reveal some big surprises regarding the title then.  The Nerd Stash will continue to provide news regarding the Final Fantasy VII Remake as more details are revealed.
