This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

One particular group of weekly missions that Rejects might receive during their journey in Warhammer 40k: Darktide is slaying a certain number of Scab enemies while out on missions. Darktide features a wide variety of hostile mobs that players must deal with while exploring the Hive City of Tertium. While each enemy’s appearance often clearly dictates to players what their role in combat is, it is not easy to categorize these mobs unless one is well-versed in the boundless lore of Warhammer 40,000. After all, Darktide‘s enemies all look the same after being lasered down or pummeled to a pulp, but knowing what distinguishes a Scab from other mobs can help players with their questing.

Discerning Scabs from Other Enemies in Warhammer 40k: Darktide

As a general rule of thumb, Scabs are well-armored enemies in Warhammer 40k: Darktide, wearing helmets with glowing eyes. On the other hand, Dregs are the more crudely dressed beings in tattered clothes. Naturally, there are exceptions with certain mob variants, but generally speaking, Scabs are equipped to look like corrupted soldiers, while Dregs are slightly better dressed than Poxwalkers.

Scabs are the “armored boys with green eyes,” and Dregs are the “Yellow Turban Rebellion from Dynasty Warriors.” Of course, Dregs are notably more ghastly-looking than the Turban Rebellion, but the core idea is that Dregs typically wear dirty, yellowish clothing. Conversely, Scabs tend to wear imperial-like armor and require more strikes or projectile hits before going down. For further clarification, Star War fans can liken Dregs to the Tusken Raiders or Sand People of Tatooine, while Scabs are comparable to special Stormtrooper units.

Glowing eyes, in particular, are a notable characteristic that differentiates Dregs from Scabs in Warhammer 40k: Darktide. Most players should be able to notice the glowing dots of light even from several dozen meters away, indicating that the enemy they are facing is indeed a Scab and not a Dreg. As mentioned above, Scabs typically have better equipment, making them more serious threats in combat situations. Psykers and Zealots should always focus on taking down the stronger Scabs before dealing with Dregs or Poxwalkers.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
