If one thing unites witches and geologists in The Sims 4, it’s crystals. These sparkly gems make a great showpiece on your Sim’s shelf, but they’re valuable for other reasons. Not only can you sell them to make a few quick Simoleons, but you can also refine them into relics and jewelry if your Sim has the right training. Whether you’d like to dedicate your Sim’s entire life to finding these geological treasures or just want to perk up your piggy bank, it all starts with tracking these collectibles down. Best of all, they don’t even have to be cut like gems in The Sims 3. Here’s where to find crystals in The Sims 4.

From quartz and emeralds to rubies and diamonds, there are plenty of different crystals you can find in The Sims 4. Finding them is easier than winning the lottery, but some methods are faster than others. In the base game, you can find crystals by exploring empty lots in town such as parks. Search for conspicuous rocks with shiny gems sticking out and have your Sim interact with them to search for these precious gems. On the surface, it’s as easy as that, although this method isn’t very efficient. That’s because rocks will disappear once searched, so you’ll need to expand your search to other worlds and realms while you wait a few days for the crystals in your neighborhood to respawn.

If you have the Get to Work expansion pack, it’s much easier to find crystals in The Sims 4. The Scientist career grants you access to a work lot containing a ton of rock spawns, making it easy to farm crystals efficiently. You can even just select the “Ask for a crystal” option when interacting with a coworker, and they’ll give you a random crystal. The Science career makes getting crystals so much easier that it’s our top recommendation. At Level 5 in the Science career, you’ll be able to invent the Cloning Machine, at which point you can use it to make copies of crystals you already have. Using the Chemical Analyzer on a crystal will also sometimes grant you an additional crystal.

How To Find Special Crystals

In addition to the standard crystals included in the base games, there are several DLC-exclusive crystals. Here’s how to get access to these special crystals and the crystal shop:

  • Travel to Sixam by using the Electroflux Workhole Generator (Get to Work)
  • Travel to Selvadorado (Jungle Adventure)
  • Visit the potion ingredients shop (Realm of Magic)

With all of those techniques at your disposal, you should have no trouble finding crystals. Now you just need to decide what to do with them all.

The Sims 4 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
