Initially, Infernal Iron might seem like another junk item you can sell in Baldur’s Gate 3, but it isn’t. It is one of the things you’ll need to progress a certain companion‘s story and get a good armor set. However, with so many things hidden in the lands of BG3, finding the locations of Infernal Iron can be quite challenging for many. Thankfully, with a bit of effort, some exploring, and the right skill checks, you can find this coveted item and make the most out of it.

Before we delve into what Infernal Iron does in BG3, it is important to learn of its locations. This miscellaneous item is found in all three acts. However, you might lose it if you’re rushing to the end and are not too keen on exploring. But, with all the benefits it brings, it is important to take some detours to get this ingredient. Here’s where you can find Infernal Iron in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Act 1
    • Inside a chest in the basement of the blacksmith’s house in the Blighted Village. In the room where you find the blueprints for the Sussur Weapons.
    • Behind Dror Ragzlin at the Goblin Camp. Take the stairs and open the treasure room to get the Infernal Iron.
    • At the back of the Zhentarim Basement. You must open the locked doors and search the chests.
    • At the Grymforge, purchase it from Stonemason Kith.
  • Act 2
    • In the Mason’s Guild. Remember to bring protection against the curse.
    • In a room before facing Balthazar at the Gauntlet of Shar. It is inside an opulent chest.
  • Act 3
    • At the basement of Flymm’s Cargo.
    • Dropped from Steel Watchers in the Lower City.

How To Use Infernal Iron

Infernal Iron has two uses in BG3, and to make the most out of it, you should scour the abovementioned locations. The first thing you can do with it is give it to Dammon at the Druid Grove to progress Karlach’s story. After that, find Dammon at Last Light Inn and give him one more piece to advance your companion’s quest again.

Second, you can give Dammon more pieces to obtain the Flawed Helldusk Armor Set. This only happens at Last Light Inn, and he’ll give you the armor pieces in the following order:

  1. Flawed Helldusk Armor
  2. Flawed Helldusk Helmet
  3. Flawed Helldusk Gloves

While it isn’t as great as the true Helldusk set, it is still good for tanky characters, such as Paladins and Fighters. Still, the real reason to collect Infernal Iron in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to attempt to save one of the game’s best companions because, let’s face it, Karlach deserves to be happy and in the party as long as possible.
