At the end of Chapter 2 of Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll get the Long-Forgotten Flame quest that tasks you with tracking down the Black Flame, also known as Nu Udra. In theory, finding it should be easy if you listen to the story’s dialogue and watch the cutscene. If you didn’t or missed a few things, we got it covered right here. Before you look for it, though, remember to bring a few cool drinks, nullberries, and your best weapon because you’re in for one of the game’s most challenging fights so far.
Where To Find the Black Flame During the ‘Long-Forgotten Flame’ Quest

As the last quest of chapter 2, you’ll need to face the Black Flame or Nu Udra in Monster Hunter Wilds. This octopus-like creature features some of the series’ most original mechanics and will lead to an impressive and quite difficult bout. However, we’ll leave the strategy for another article. For now, let’s focus on where to find this six-tentacled menace.
The first thing you’ll want to do after finishing the cutscene is restocking almost everything you have. Potions, nullberries, and cool drinks should be your priority. After that, do the following:
- From the forge’s base camp, head east and follow the narrow path until you reach a small elevator.
- Ride it down until you reach sector 13.
- Keep going east until you uncover sector 15, which is a place full of lava that also houses The Black Flame.
- Approach slowly to begin the fight.
Remember that will only occur during the abovementioned quest. Once you start hunting this creature as an optional quest, your Seikret will move toward its location on its own, so don’t worry about searching for it across the whole map. The same applies once you’ve engaged the monster during the quest. Even if you get “carted,” you’ll be able to track it down easily again.
