Once you unlock side missions in Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll get the Dareel’s Research Report quest, which requires you to find a Tracktail Lizard. Contrary to the large or small monsters we can spot from afar, this lizard belongs to the Endemic Wildlife category, which means it is small and can only be captured with a net. Plus, with the Windward Plains being so huge, finding it will take a while, even for those who know this area like the back of their hands. To make the search easier, we’ve narrowed down the location of this elusive reptile.

To locate the Tracktail Lizard in Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll need to head to sectors 11 and 13 of the Windward Plains, also known as where the dunes are. If you’re struggling to find these areas, it is where the Balahara (sand worm-like monsters) spawn. From what we saw, the Tracktail Lizard spawns south from the oasis, so your best bet is to run around the area until you spot one. You can use the below image as a reference to see what the creature looks like.

Once you encounter it, you can approach it on foot or on your Seikret and launch the net at it. To do so, select the net from your inventory and equip it on your slinger. After that, just aim and shoot. Once you capture it, you’ll get five guild points and will have completed the Dareel’s Research Report quest.

In truth, this doesn’t give you any noteworthy rewards, but it is a nice tutorial that shows you how to capture small species, which is useful, especially for those who want to complete their hunting log. Also, since these creatures are fragile, try not to capture them during a fight. We’ve killed a few accidentally while fighting Balahara, so just wait for the combat to end before bringing these lizards home.
