Collecting almost every item you come across is a common practice for nearly every avid RPG fan, as you never know if you need said item in the future. Unfortunately, Starfield has a limited inventory capacity, and you will have to move resources to storage from time to time. Accordingly, we will go over where to store resources in Starfield. Fortunately, the game provides many opportunities to save your supplies. Below, we’ll give you some examples, as well as an exploit to carry almost unlimited amounts of weight.

All Storage Containers in Starfield

When building outposts, you need countless resources, and it’s very inconvenient when you don’t have a place to put them. And if you collect almost all items, you also need some kind of storage for each of your finds. Fortunately, the game has many options that you can use, and we have described each of them below.

Boxes and Crates

The best option to create a separate storage room on your outposts is to place a storage box and a storage crate. Fortunately, they are relatively easy to craft and only take up a little space, so you can create a single outpost to accommodate plenty of containers.

It’s worth noting that one significant difference between them is the amount of weight one can hold. A storage box will hold a maximum of 10 kg, but a storage crate can hold up to 150 kg. The difference is very noticeable, as the crate is superior. The recipes for both containers are practically the same, but the capacity difference is 15 times higher. Here are the materials needed to craft a storage box and a storage crate:

Storage Box:

  • Aluminum ×2
  • Structural Material ×2

Storage Crate:

  • Aluminum ×2
  • Structural Material ×4

Thus, by spending twice as much Structural Material, you significantly increase the amount of cargo that can fit in it. 150 kg of weight in a crate is great, but what about unlimited capacity?

How To Get Unlimited Storage in Starfield

You will have access to unlimited storage from the first missions of Starfield. During One Small Step, you will be taken to the Lodge, where you can meet with members of Constellation. This way, you can talk to Noel and ask if there is a place to stay, and she will take you to your new room. Once inside, you’ll notice a safe standing opposite the bed, not far from the mirror. Interact with it, and you will see that there is no load indicator, so you can put an unlimited number of resources inside.

The Lodge also has a storage crate and a storage box in the basement that you can interact with. Like the safe, they can hold an unlimited amount of resources, allowing you to store items in three different places. The only drawback that can get in the way is the problem of carrying the cargo from the Lodge to the required location, which can take a lot of time. But the good news is that you can also make unlimited storage out of your inventory.

Unlike unlimited storage in Starfield, this option is only available for PC players via cheats. If you don’t care about disabling specific achievements, you can shorten the trips from the storage to the ship to the outposts with one simple console command. If you’re playing on a PC, follow these steps:

  • Open the game console/terminal by pressing the “`” button.
  • In the input field, write the command “player.setav carryweight 100000“.
  • Press “Enter” to apply.

Thus, you will increase the carrying capacity of your inventory by the desired amount. The numbers determine the number of kilograms you can hold. You can change them to the desired amount that suits you best or just enter a huge number. As mentioned above, using console commands will block certain achievements, so be prepared to make a small sacrifice for convenience. Now you know where to store resources in Starfield.
