You’re on the trail for your latest quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and quickly get attacked by an ogre and a griffin. You tough it out and survive along with your party, but not uninjured. Victorious, you imbibe your potions and use your healing spells but are horrified to find it doesn’t fully heal you. You might be wondering, why isn’t your health bar isn’t restored despite healing in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

What is the Loss Bar and Why Isn’t Your Health Restoring in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Having health is important when fighting creatures like this

When you take damage and finish healing back the gray portion but there’s still a chunk missing, this is the Health ‘Loss Bar’ in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This is a temporary reduction to your max HP while your Stamina bar remains unaffected. This reduction grows each time you either die and reload your most recent save, or the longer you go between battles without resting.

The simplest methods of restoring your health bar in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are either to go to an inn and rest or to set up a campfire. Inns are marked locally by a sign with a fireplace under a roof with stars above. They’re different from taverns, usually marked with a mug on their signs.

You should consider the pros and cons of each option here:

Campfire Pros
  • Plenty of locations are scattered across the map.
  • You only ever need one Camping Kit each time you rest.
  • Once you have the Kit, you don’t have to spend extra money.
  • You can swap out skills to equip depending on what you need.
  • You can cook food that gives huge stat benefits to your team. Plus the cooking renders are mesmerizing to watch.
Campfire Cons
  • Different Kits are suited to different environments but can be destroyed if monsters attack you at night.
  • Camping Kits are heavy so you should consider giving one to your Pawn.

Inn Pros
  • Inns are safe from monster attacks.
  • They only cost Gold, and in places like Bakbattahl, you can even find inns with cheaper rates than others in town.
  • You can organize your Storage, and it’s networked to every inn in the game.
Inn Cons
  • Inns cost a lot per use, with minimums usually exceeding 1000 Gold and going higher depending on where you go.
  • Inns are only found in towns or cities.

Generally speaking, you can use both but don’t rely solely on one or the other, as they both confer similar benefits.

Are There Other Ways to Restore Your Health Bar in DD2?

If you’re desperate to heal and there are no campfires or inns nearby, you can use an Allheal Elixir if you have one. These restore your health completely, Loss Bar and all in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Given that these are uncommon and expensive, you should use them only in emergencies.

Finally, the remaining option that technically restores your health is dying with a full Wakestone (3 shards) in your inventory. When you resurrect with a Wakestone, you gain all your health and stamina back!
