Although the hype for Starfield is reaching an all-time high, more than any new release in recent memory, come September 6th, tons of players will hop on for their chance to finally check out Bethesda’s new IP. Fans who have a little less hype and a little more patience may not want to play Starfield on launch. While this may seem like an odd choice, there are a few great reasons why giving the RPG time to settle may be the best way of experiencing the game. Things like patches to fix bugs, glitches, and new mods will take some time to come to Starfield. Based on these reasons and more, waiting six months to play Starfield is a valid way.
Playing Starfield May Be Full of Bugs and Glitches on Release
Bethesda is also widely known for its buggy state in which many of its new releases launch. For example, Skyrim was released with major issues, with tons of clipping and various glitches that ruined some player’s experiences. This has led many to describe the initial play sessions of Skyrim as unenjoyable, though others find the glitches charming. However, no matter your stance on Bethesda glitches, many of these problems were slowly patched out over time. If Starfield releases with similar bugs and glitches, some players may want to wait a few months for the optimal playing experience. Hopefully, it won’t take six months to remove all the glitches from Starfield.

Once again, Skyrim, for example, has a massive library of mods, ranging from simple model swaps to massive mechanic-changing expansions. For many, these mods are one of the RPG’s most alluring draws. Already, it has been confirmed that Starfield will have support for mods. However, modders will need some time to develop these mods, possibly a few months. There should be some smaller mods available shortly after launch, but any player looking for something bigger will have to wait. Given time, hopefully, the Starfield mods will reach the same level as Skyrim or Fallout 4.
Prioritizing Your Backlog May Not Be A Bad Idea
Finally, although Starfield is the biggest new release, players’ backlogs may already be filled with other new titles. On Gamepass alone, new releases like Sea of Stars, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Everspace 2 are consuming a lot of time from gamers. However, playing other new releases may be a great idea, giving Starfield time to implement these changes. For many, Starfield will instantly become their must-play game. For others, it may fall to the end of their backlog.
Overall, bug fixes, mods, and a steep backlog are all great reasons to give Starfield a few months before playing. Giving Bethesda time to clear up the inevitable bugs may help create a better first impression. Finally, waiting for mods will let players experience Starfield in more fine-tuned ways. In the end, playing Starfield six months after release may be the best way to enjoy it.
