Prince William and Kate Middleton remain committed to their duties as working royals, moving to take on more joint royal engagements in the coming years. The Prince and Princess of Wales went through their most challenging trial last year, with Kate battling an undisclosed form of cancer alongside the British monarch. Thankfully, the mom of three soon attained full remission, beginning the year on a positive note. During those tough months, the princess notably relinquished her royal duties to focus on her treatment and recovery. She has since returned to the public eye, stepping up in her capacity as a working royal with both solo and joint public appearances.
Royal expert Richard Fitzgerald discussed this gradual return to royal duties and the new strategy the Princess of Wales and her husband were looking to embrace in their new era. Speaking to GB News, the royal expert noted that Prince William and Kate Middleton were most likely to have more joint engagements “whenever possible,” as such appearances are highly anticipated given their standing reputations as “the world’s most glamorous couple.”
William and Kate Step Into Their Future Roles Following Southport Killings
Going further, Fitzgerald pointed out that a lot has changed in the wake of the royals’ chaotic 2024, and hence, may require considerable time for them to revert to the life and structure they once knew. Regardless, he believes the couple were progressing in the right direction, especially with Kate now in remission. The royal expert described William and Kate as the “future of the monarchy,” noting that their current actions were a reflection of what to expect from the crown in the not-so-distant future.
He cited the couple’s joint visit to Southport last September, to sympathize with the community following the mass stabbing of children attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance party that left three dead. The royal couple met and interacted with the families of the Southport victims, the kids’ dance teacher, and other community members in a show of support. The visit marked the first of many royal engagements Kate Middleton has undertaken since her cancer remission, sometimes, independent of her husband, Prince William.
Richard Fitzgerald believes the Southport visit, which he described as “most successful,” would serve as the “template” for William and Kate’s future appearances.
William and Kate’s Royal Appearances Boost Popularity
The royal expert proceeded to discuss Prince William and Kate Middleton’s growing influence despite their new approach to public engagements. According to him, there was an “absolutely vast” interest in the duo as a couple, compared to their individuality, necessitating the need for more joint public appearances in fulfilment of their royal duties. He explained,
“Part of their appeal is the fact that they have taken certain charitable activities, William and the Earthshot Prize, and mental health, Catherine, with the early years.”
As proof of the influence they wield, Fitzgeral noted how these charities linked to the couple in some way get an instant boost from their involvement. By embracing their future roles and responsibilities to the monarchy in that capacity, William and Kate set the stage for an outstanding era under their reign. He concluded,
“If you look at the polls, both of them are tremendously popular and as a team, they’re unbeatable.”
The royal expert’s comments come as the British monarch, King Charles, continues to face declining health amid his cancer battle. Diagnosed with the debilitating condition at about the same time as Kate last year, Charles continues his struggles, with his health reportedly declining by the day. Palace insiders recently revealed the monarch’s fears that he may not last until his next birthday, making him eager to try every available treatment method to beat the odds. Yet, even in this uncertain future, Prince William and Kate Middleton have to step up sooner than anyone could have anticipated, launching their modernized plans for the monarchy.
