Have you heard the joke, How do you make a small fortune? The answer is to start with a large fortune and buy a winery. Ok, not very funny but definitely true. Now gamers don’t have to sink their life’s savings into a winery to know what it is like to run an operation from planting the vines to crushing to bottling that sweet vino. General Interactive Co. has graduatedย Terroirย from a Steam Early Access game to a full release now. The game’s title refers to the specific nuanced characterย in a wine derived from the land that the grapes were grown on. Terroir can be translated from the French to literally mean “soil “.
Terroirย is a winemaking simulation game where you run a Chateau over the course of a century. You will start with a single plot of land to plant your first vines. ย Decisions are plenty. What grape variety do you start with such as, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah or Shiraz? That is a bit of a trick question as the wine snobs in the crowd will know that the last two are actually the same grape. There is a dynamic weather system modeledย after France’s Bordeaux region that will affect growing conditions meaning that grape damage and variability in ripeness can be a real concern.
Inside the winery, you will be in charge of crushing, fermenting, cellaring and blending to craftย award-winningย wines. You can set the price of your wines and deal with chance occurrences. ย Will your bottles sell for a king’s ransomย like a 1962ย Petrus or like a bottle of 2 Buck Chuck?
Withsuccess comes the ability to expand your operations and your Chateau to become a full-fledged tycoon with pockets brimming with that Vino money!ย Terroirย is available on Steam as of September 20, 2017.
