Many people would agree that working in customer service is one of the worst experiences anyone can have. Not specifically because of the work itself, but because of the kind of customers you sometimes have to deal with. For example, this barista from California complains about how people are getting dumber every month, after hearing a customer ask if their mocha frappe was hot or cold. Starting with the fact that people don’t even know what they’re ordering, and then they complain about their own mistake.
On her TikTok @jorlala, she often shares unbelievable stories about customers at the coffee shop where she works who are rude, crude, or just plain dumb. In one of her most recent videos, jorlala was ranting about how people have no common sense and are getting dumber and dumber. All this because this California barista overheard her coworker being asked by a customer if the mocha frappe he had just ordered was cold or hot. The coworker kindly explained that the frappe is cold like a milkshake, with blended ice. The customer, not understanding, asked again if it was cold or hot, so the coworker kindly explained again. This was only so that the customer could repeat for the third time whether his frappe was hot or cold.
OP commented that while the interaction between the customer and her colleague was taking place, she could only think of responses that would get her fired. Fortunately, @jorlala did not have to deal with that customer, as her colleague patiently explained in more detail to the customer that his frappe was cold. But all that was to no avail, as the customer complained because he wanted a hot mocha. To this, more than one user responded with answers to this nonsense, such as ‘She should’ve said when’s the last time you had a hot milkshake,‘ as Tasha Nicolle said.
The worst part of this case is that this is not an isolated incident, but rather something that happens many times every day to thousands of people. Many other users shared similar stories, such as ‘Someone asked me the difference between pork and beef today,’ as Jillian shared. Or ‘Is this my drink?? You ordered a frappe, this is an americano’ as described by the user chloeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. A significant change needs to be made because not everyone knows how to listen carefully, read, or use common sense.
