One of the games announced during the Sony press conference at E3 was World of Final Fantasy, a title that boastsย retro gameplay (albeit simplified) reminiscent of early Final Fantasy games, and allows characters and monsters to combine into groups.ย Although it appears to be a game dedicated to appealing toย a new, younger audience, its visually beautiful, and looks interesting enough for those who are already long time fans of Final Fantasy.
In a set of new screenshots released today, Square Enix showed off heroes Reynn and Lann as they enter the world of Grymoire, as well as characters, locations, and monsters in the game, including Lightning fromย Final Fantasy XIIIย and the town of Cornelia from the original Final Fantasy.ย Square Enix adds:
The new images showcase Mirages, powerful creatures that can turn the tide of any battle to aid Reynn and Lann. Players can take advantage of the gameโs unique stacking mechanic to increase attack power and HP and unlock special abilities. Among the iconic Mirages are Shiva, Ramuh, Ifrit and Cerberus, ready to wipe out all enemies that oppose the duo. World of Final Fantasy also introduces train travel with the Cactuar Conductor for Reynn and Lann to journey across Grymoire.
They also talked about battles in World of Final Fantasy:
In battle, players can ride on and stack their Mirage monsters using the gameโs โStack-Stackโ system. When you stack Mirage monsters on top of each other, their HP and attack power will add up and special abilities will become available for use. When you battle using them separated (not stacked on top of each other), youโll recover AP faster, which is necessary for abilities, and avoid the risk of being taken out all at once.
