Folks looking forward to Yooka-Laylee get some good and bad news today. The good news is that the first official gameplay trailer for the game has been released ahead of E3. The bad news? Yooka-Laylee has been delayed to 2017.

The trailer shows off the game’s gorgeous cartoon graphics, cleverly designed enemies and characters and some of the levels that players will leap and bound through. some highlights include a minecart segment straight out of Donkey Kong Country, a portal that transforms the duo into a strange flower and getting a look at some of the Yooka’s abilities.

Yooka can curl up into a ball and roll across the ground as Laylee balances on top of him. The colorful chameleon can also breathe fire and double jump thanks to Laylee’s slight but powerful wings.

Yooka Laylee is being developed by Playtonic games – a group of ex-Rare devs who have come together to make a spiritual successor to the wildly popular Banjo-Kazooie series. The team took to Kickstarter last year to fund the project and made a whopping two million dollars.

No reason was given for the delay, but with hopefully we’ll get to see more of this charming return to 3D platforming soon.
